Leak Detection

Advanced Leak Detection & Targeted Repairs

If you suspect a leak, we can confirm it and pinpoint the source. Our technicians perform above‑ground inspections, dive to assess structures and fittings, and use pressure testing and acoustic geophones to isolate underground breaks. We repair above‑ground leaks and perform underwater fixes across surface types, including vinyl liners. Serving Canton, Plymouth, Northville, Novi, Livonia, Ann Arbor, and nearby southeast Michigan communities.

Do I Have a Leak?

Water level can change due to weather (temperature, humidity, wind, rain) and usage. As a quick screen, try the Bucket Test below. If the pool water level drops more than the bucket level over 24 hours (with autofill off), you may have a leak.

Bucket Test (Quick Screen)

  1. Bring the pool to normal water level. Turn the autofill OFF.
  2. Fill a 5‑gallon bucket with pool water to about 3–4 inches from the top.
  3. Place the bucket on a pool step, ensuring pool water does not flow into the bucket.
  4. Mark the water level inside the bucket and the pool water level on the outside of the bucket.
  5. Run the test for 24 hours. Avoid backwashing and heavy splashing. If it rains, repeat the test.
  6. Compare levels: if the pool level outside the bucket fell more than the water inside, a leak is likely.

Pro tip: To help distinguish plumbing vs. vessel leaks, you can repeat the test for a second 24‑hour period with the circulation system running. Greater loss with the pump running can indicate a plumbing‑side issue.

What to Watch For (Common Indicators)

  • Rust spots or persistent wet areas on the deck or beneath equipment.
  • Hollow coping stones; loose, cracked, or missing tiles.
  • Standing water in the yard not explained by irrigation or rain.
  • Gaps where the skimmer throat meets the pool wall.
  • Water level stabilizing at a fitting (skimmer, return, or light niche).

Our Diagnostic Process

  • Visual inspection (equipment pad, decking, tile/coping, skimmer throats).
  • Underwater inspection with dive as needed to assess surfaces and fittings.
  • Dye testing around returns, lights, and other penetrations.
  • Pressure testing of plumbing lines to confirm loss and isolate breaks.
  • Acoustic (geophone) listening to locate underground leaks.
  • Post‑repair verification to confirm the system holds pressure and water level.

Leak Repair Capabilities

  • Above‑ground leaks at equipment, valves, unions, and fittings.
  • Underground or under‑deck line repairs, including concrete saw‑cut and patch as required.
  • Underwater repairs across surface types, including vinyl liner patches and fitting reseals.

FAQs

Will you perform a pressure test on every job?

We pressure‑test when indicated by initial findings to confirm and isolate a suspected line break.

Can leaks be fixed without draining the pool?

In many cases, yes. Our technicians can dive to perform targeted underwater repairs, especially in vinyl and plaster pools.

How soon will I know the results?

We share findings on‑site whenever possible and outline recommended next steps, including repairs or monitoring.
